Importance and Scope:

Petroleum engineering is a field of engineering which concerned with production of hydrocarbons, such as crude oil or natural gas. Examination and production are falls within the upstream area of the oil and gas industries as per the research conducted by the earth scientists, and petroleum engineer. Two principls subsurfaces which concentrate expanding financial recuperation of hydrocarbons from the subsurface of reservoirs.

Petroleum geology and geophysics concentrate on the hydrocarbon reservoir rock, where petroleum engineering focuses on the evaluation of the recoverable volume of this resource using details information about the physical conduct of oil, water and gas inside the rock at very high pressure. The efforts of both geologists and petroleum engineers throughout the life of a hydrocarbon collection determine the way in which a reservoir is developed, and they have an impact on field financial aspects. Petroleum engineering requires information and knowledge of many other related studies, for example, geophysics, petroleum geology, formation evaluation, drilling, economics, reservoir simulation, store and well engineering, and besides oil and gas facilities engineering.

Why Dubai?

The Emirate of Dubai is the seven United Arab Emirates but has the biggest population at over 2.1 million inhabitants. It is located on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf and is the capital of Emirate of Dubai. Dubai was recently named as the best destination for travellers. Dubai oil revenue was first started to flow in 1969. It provides help to accelerate the better development of the city, but limited numbers of reserves are present and also low production levels today, and nearly 5% of the emirate's revenue comes from oil. It continuously builds the first, largest and the biggest constructions in the world. Dubai's dynamics are always changing with construct something better and bigger and new than the older one. Petroleum industry in UAE has become the backbone of the country’s economy. It is one of the world’s largest industries in terms of oil reserves, petroleum production and crude oil exports. The UAE is currently the seventh largest petroleum producer and fourth largest crude oil exporter in the world. Dubai is having approximately 4 billion barrels of oil in reserve and become the second placeholder in terms of oil reserves in the UAE. The main operator in the emirate is Dubai Petroleum Co (DPC). Dubai’s oil production peaked in 1991 at 410,000 b/d and has been steadily declining ever since. The main fields are offshore: Fateh, Southwest Fateh and two smaller fields, Falah and Rashid. The only onshore deposit is the Margham field. Dubai Petroleum Company (DPC) is the main operator.

Session 1. Conventional and Non-Conventional Fuel

The conventional Resource is also known as finite resource or non-renewable source. This is a resource that does not reintroduce itself at a sufficient rate for sustainable economic extraction in meaningful human time-frames. An example is carbon-based, organically-derived fuel. The original organic material becomes a fuel such as oil or gas after going through heat and pressure. Earth minerals and metalores, fossil fuels (coal, petroleum, and natural gas) and groundwater in certain aquifers, all are considered as non-renewable resources, though individual elements are almost always conserved.

Non-Conventional Fuels are also known as alternative fuels and advanced fuels. This fuel is used to store energy, which should be in a stable form and can be easily transported to the place of use. There are some examples of alternative fuels include biodiesel, bio alcohol (methanol, ethanol, butanol), refuse-derived fuel, chemically stored electricity (batteries and fuel cells), hydrogen, non-fossil methane, non-fossil natural gas, vegetable oil, propane and other biomass sources.

Session 2. Petroleum Geology and Geo-Physical Exploration

Petroleum geology is the division of the origin, natural occurrence, movement, gathering, gathering and exploration of hydrocarbon fuels, especially oil or petroleum. Petroleum geology involves sedimentology which is the study of how sand, mud and clay are deposited. In sedimentology, petroleum geologists comprehend how the petroleum deposits found in sedimentary rocks came to be because it is in sedimentary basins that the commercial accumulations of petroleum occur. It discusses the specific set of geological disciplines that are applied to the search for hydrocarbons (oil exploration). Petroleum Engineering 2019 will discuss the about field of petroleum geology.

Geophysical exploration is the application of the principles of physics to the investigation of the subsurface, looking for hydrocarbon. Geophysical investigations of the interior of the earth include taking measurements at or near the earth’s surface that are influenced by the internal distribution of physical characteristics. The objective of any exploration project is to find new measurements of hydrocarbons at a low cost and in a short span of time. The standard sequence of actions once an area has been selected for exploration starts with the definition of a basin. Petroleum exploration and production deal with the geological interpretation of geophysical data, especially in offshore areas.

Session 3. Hydraulic Fracturing

Hydraulic fracturing is the process of drawing fluid into a wellbore at a mixture rate that is too high for the formation to accept without breaking. During injection the flow of resistance increases, the pressure in the wellbore increases to a value is called as the break-down pressure that is those whole of the in-situ compressive stress and the strength of the formation. When this creation breaks down, a crack will be formed, and the injected liquid streams through it. From a constrained gathering about animated perforations, ideally a single, vertical crack will be made that propagates previously, two "wings" being 180° separated and identical in shape and size. In naturally fractured or cleated formations, it is possible to create multiple fractures and the two wings evolve in a tree-like pattern with increasing number of branches away from the injection point.

Session 4. Petro-Chemistry and Petro-Physics

Petro-chemistry is a branch of chemistry that studies processing of crude oil (petroleum) and natural gas into useable products or raw materials. These petrochemicals have become a crucial part of the chemical industry nowadays. Each geographical area and hence oil field will generate a raw petroleum with a different combination of molecules depending upon the overall ratio of each hydrocarbon it contains, this directly affects the coloration and viscosity of the petroleum chemistry. In extremely huge quantities petroleum has been processed a lot of years by natural changes in organic materials. Offering the required building blocks petrochemicals allow downstream industries to originate and improve the quality of life.

Petro-physics study includes physical and chemical rock properties and their interactions with fluids. A major usage of petro-physics is in studying reservoirs for the hydrocarbon industry. Petro-physicists are engaged in helping reservoir engineers and geoscientists to understand the rock properties of the reservoir, particularly how pores in the subsurface are interconnected, controlling the accumulation and migration of hydrocarbons. Some of the key properties studied in petro physics are lithology, porosity, water saturation, permeability and density.

Session 8. Crude Oil Processing and Desulphurization

Petroleum Engineering Conference includes various research aspects in the field of Crude Oil. Basically, the natural form of petroleum is called crude oil and it is in clear form, which is green or black colour and maybe like gasoline. Unique mixture of molecules present in petroleum, and its physical and chemical properties, such as colour and viscosity. Sulphur exists in crude petroleum as a non-hydrocarbon component in different concentrations. Among the distillate fractions obtained from crude oil, the distribution of sulphur compounds is not uniform, rather it varies from fraction to fraction depending upon their boiling points. The concentration, as well as the complexity in the structure of the sulphur compounds, increases in various distillate fractions with the increase in boiling points. In petroleum its presence is undesirable due to corrosion problems, deactivating catalysts in various refining processes and contributing to environmental pollution. So the regulatory authorities are imposing strict regulations to limit the amount of sulphur in petroleum-based liquid fuels.

Petroleum Industry is a major source of pollution which causes many harmful for humans, animals and all living organism. When petroleum spills pollute surface waters such as streams or wetlands, individual surface waterways may be closed for travel, swimming, or fishing. Tourism and water recreation can be badly affected. Oil spills can harm birds, frogs, reptiles, fish, waterfowl, and other animals by through physical contact, toxic contamination, and destruction of food sources. Petroleum in lake bottoms and stream beds is very harmful because sediment traps the oil and affects the organisms that live in or feed off the sediments. On the surface of the water, water bugs that skim the water surface and floating plants are threatened by oil slicks that spread across the water surface. Shoreline habitats of lakes and reservoirs provide food sources and nesting grounds, which can be destroyed by oil spills.
