Session 1:

Dentistry and dental histology: Dentistry is largely based on maintaining proper oral health, but is also an aesthetically focused practice. A large part of dentistry involves restoring teeth and making a smile beautiful, one that the patient is happy to show to others. Dentistry also encompasses the treatment and correction of malformation of the jaws, misalignment of the teeth, and birth anomalies of the oral cavity such as cleft palate. General practice dentistry includes manyspecialities and subspecialities, including orthodontics and dental orthopedics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral maxillofacial pathology, endodontics etc. Dental histology and embryology touches on the development and growth of teeth and oral cavities, as well as the structure and development of salivary glands and more. The study of histology mainly focus on the development and structure of cells and tissues, the stages of tooth development and maturation, the different components of a tissue, like cells, intercellular substance and tissue fluids, and the different components of a human tooth, like enamel, dentin, dental pulp and cementum.

Sessions 2:

Dentofacial Orthopedics: Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics is the specialty of dentistry that focuses on the alignment of the teeth and the dental arches: the maxilla and the mandible. The practice of this specialty includes diagnosis, prevention, interception, and correction of malocclusion and other abnormalities of the developing or mature or o facial structures. There are multiple methods for adjusting malocclusion, depending on the needs of the individual patient. In growing patients there are more options for treating skeletal discrepancies, either promoting or restricting growth using functional appliances, orthodontic headgear or a reverse pull face mask. Most orthodontic work is started during the early permanent dentition stage before skeletal growth is completed. If skeletal growth has completed, Orthognatic surgery can be a choice. Extraction of teeth can be required in some cases to compensate with the orthodontic treatment. Dentofacial orthopedic is a dentist who has done specialization in the orthodontics and earns special distinction and completed two to three years in orthodontic   residency program. Children’s are the best candidate for dentofacial orthopedic treatment, but it is also used to treat adults.

Amalgam separators and west control management system: Amalgam is one of the most common materials that are used to fill the cavaties,it is been used in this dental industry for more than 150 years. It is a mixture of metals contains liquid mercury (elemental) and a powered alloy composition of mercury. 50 % of this amalgam is elemental mercury by weight (approx.).This elemental mercury can react and bind together with silver/copper etc. to from an amalgam. The study shows that less than 1% of mercury is released in the environment by dental exposure. Amalgam separators are devices that are specially designed for separating the amalgam particles entering in the sewage systems by sedimentation, filtration and centrifugation or combing these three together.Dentists are encouraged to follow dental waste management practices for disposal and handling of amalgam. The EPA (Enviromental Protection Agent) requires amalgam separators to achieve at least 95% removal efficiency and  final rule on amalgam separators is effective from July 14 2017.

Sessions 5:

Genetics and oral Health: Dental carries is the most common problem in adults and children.30 to 60% of carries phenotypic variation in secondary is responsible for genes.Periodontal diseases are heterogeneous type of disease affected 50 billion people worldwide. This disease is inherited as X linked dominant trait. Oral cancer also due to the mutation in proto-onco gene (polymorphism in GST gene: GSTMI and GSTTI OF CYP) or mutation in tumour suppressor lead to loss of heterozygosity and fail to repair. Study shows that dental development for most of the part is genetically determined and plays an important role in malocclusion. Cleft lip /palate are associated with chromosomal disorders or multifactorial in origin. The study shows that 70% cases are non syndromic and 30% are related to some syndromes (apert  syndrome, cleidocranial dystosis, treacher collins syndrome etc.). This can be autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, or X linked. Siblings of affected child are a risk of 30 times more than general population.

Antimicrobial prophylaxis (AP) can be used effectively to prevent infection, but its use should be limited to specific, well-accepted indications to avoid excess cost, toxicity, and antimicrobial resistance. Antimicrobial prophylaxis may be considered primary (prevention of an initial infection) or secondary (prevention of the recurrence or reactivation of an infection), or it may also be administered to prevent infection by eliminating a colonizing organism.
