Biography

Prof. Ryszard Kornijow graduated from the Faculty of Biology of UMCS in Lublin, Poland. In the years 1977-2011 he worked as an academic teacher at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin. From 2011 he is working as a Professor at the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute in Gdynia. He is the author of approximately 300 publications and two patents. He is the member of the International Society of Limnology, Polish representative in the SEFS (European Federation of Freshwater Sciences), UN expert on biodiversity. Visiting prof. at University of Helsinki, University of Valencia, University of Konstanz. He is the scholarship holder of the International Agricultural Center (Limnological Institute, Nieuwersluis, Holandia), British Council (University of Liverpool, Anglia), Center for International Agricultural Development Cooperation (Shefayim, Israel); Fulbright (Institute of Ecosystem Studies, Millbrook, New York, USA). His scientific interest includes various aspects of functioning of freshwater and brackish ecosystems, and particularly restoration of rivers, lakes, and dam reservoirs, ecology of macroinvertebrates, macrophytes, and fish, trophic interactions, life strategies of invasive hydrobionts, reconstruction of the history of lakes based on palaeolimnological techniques.
