Biography

Constantine Poulos graduated in Chemistry from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens in the year 1970. In 1972 started his postgraduate studies in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and at 1976 the Ph.D degree was awarded to him by the University of Manchester. In 1977 started his academic career in the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry at the University of Patras and since 1996 he has been full Professor in Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Patras. He has been Director of Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry and Natural Products Division in the Department of Chemistry, Head of the Department of Chemistry (2001-2005) and since 2000 has been Director of the Laboratory for the Interdisciplinary Design of Science Teaching in the School of Science in the University of Patras. He is the Coordinator of the Hellenic Green Chemistry Network which is based in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Patras. He is a Member of the Association of Greek Chemists and Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (Chartered Chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry)


Research Interest

Design and synthesis of analogues of biologically active peptides ( mammalian tachykinis, insect neuropeptides) and structure activity studies for the development of non-opioid drugs for pain relief and the development of environmentally friendly insecticides for a sustainable agriculture, Isolation and characterization of natural products from plants.
