Biography

Wilson Boardman in his early career was working in the pesticide industry in both technical and commercial roles for multi-national manufacturers. The second phase of his career saw him building his own agronomy team in the UK. During this time he came to realize the potential for a more holistic approach to nutrition to contribute to reducing pesticide inputs, and particularly the role that novel micronutrient formulations could play. He sold his agronomy business in ‘98 to pursue his passion for foliar nutrition. He joined Micromix as technical director in ‘99. micro nutrients, bio stimulants and adjuvants were developed and manufactured at Langar, Nottingham. In 2004 an acquisition brought Tony Peers to the company to further expand a rapidly growing export portfolio. The company was restructured in 2006 to focus on product development and the growing market for Micromix’s unique no-scorch foliar Nitrogen product; (Multi-N) and new bio stimulants. By 2010 Micromix bio stimulants were the main focus of product developments; including novel proprietary technology that led to UK Government grant funded research at the University of Nottingham. Since then further supported research has led to a number of unique outcomes from epigenetic responses. Commercialisation beckons and Wilson has been invited to present papers at no less than 8 conferences in 2018. Micromix was acquired by the OLMIX group in June 2018 and Wilson is now the Global Ambassador for Plant Care Products for the French owned group which spends over €5m a year on R&D. Micromix recently was awarded a research grant by the UK government of a little over $1m to develop its technology facilitating crop development under reduced irrigation or drought conditions.
