Biography

Peter Appleton joined Norwich University as a visiting professor of management in July 2019. He is the author of the book, Billion $$ High, published by McGraw-Hill Canada, and of over 90 other research and academic publications. He holds a Ph.D. in International Finance and Development from McGill and San Simon universities, and an M.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Alberta. He is fluent in English, French, and Spanish. Appleton has studied and taught at numerous universities in Canada and abroad, to include Carleton University, the University of Ottawa, McDonald Agriculture College of McGill University, the University of Alberta-Canada, the University of Mount Olive, the University of Marista- Mexico, and the University of San Simón- Bolivia. He has also offered courses at key universities in Kenya, Mali, and Ghana. In Canada, Mexico, and the USA, he has operated a wide variety of businesses to include telecommunications, underwater technology, nano bubble technology for agriculture and aquaculture, and international agriculture and food consulting (Agriculture Innovations-USA). He is currently chairman and chief technical officer of Earthwise Global, a leading international Agri tech company. Internationally, Professor Appleton has worked in over 80 countries for agencies and foundations as a consultant, and in leading major projects as chief of party. In other recent work, Appleton has led projects that have conducted research, designed surveys, monitored, and evaluated programs, using rigorous scientific and financial methodologies. He has worked for a variety of donors—CIDA, USAID, DFID, UNDP, the European Union, and World Bank—in many countries, including Kenya, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Nigeria, Haiti, Belize, Bolivia, Mexico, Honduras, and Colombia. Currently he is project manager of an advanced technology project in agriculture, aquaculture, utilizing advanced water technologies which increase production of agriculture and aquaculture by 36 to 40 percent, eliminate pesticides, and decrease need for fertilizers—greatly improving profits of large and smallholders, particularly of high-value export crops. He also works with coffee and cacao producers in Central America to investigate new applications of water injected with gases to resolve coffee rust and other disease. He is supervising trials in three Central American countries (El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala) and two in Africa (Kenya, Ghana), and is designing applications of appropriate production systems at low cost
