Biography

Livia Leoni is an associate professor in the department of Biomedical Sciences and Technologies at University of Roma Tre, Italy. Livia Leoni is the head and is responsible for Multicentre Research projects at Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation. Since 1993 Livia Leoni has been studying Pseudomonas genus, with special focus on global regulatory networks leading as such as social behavior (quorum sensing), pathogeny, degradation of toxic compounds (bioremediation), carbon catabolite repression. Her experimental approach from traditional microbiology and genetics to molecular biology, biochemistry and synthetic biology.

Research Interest

The present research of Livia Leoni is mainly focused on Pseudomonas aeruginosa as model organism and it is organized in understand bacterial pathogeny and biofilm formation; develop high-throughput screening systems for the identification of novel compounds targeting bacterial biofilm and virulence; and screening of libraries of FDA approved drugs for the repurposing of "old" drugs for novel anti-virulence and anti-biofilm therapies.
