Biography

Lalit Kumar Jha is former Dean, Professor of Forestry, who elected as a Vice-President of Mendalian Society of India,Fellow Linnean Society of London ; International Benevolent Research Forum , National Institute of Ecology, and Society of Ethno botanists (India). He almost has 39 years of teaching, research and Extension experience in forestry and environmental Sciences (Silviculture systems , Social forestry , agroforestry, Forest and agro Biodiversity, Forest laws and rural development ) out of which 27 years and 9 months as Professor, who obtained adequate knowledge of the University Management system serving as Head , Dean , Pro. Vice-Chancellor(o), Vice-Chancellor(o) and member of the Authorities of NEHU and Visitors nominee(President of India) in the Executive Council, Academic Council and Planning Board in Central Universities of India. Served as member in committees Viz. Pear committee on Soil, Watershed and Agro forestry ( President of India ,Government of India ) and other committees as member ;UGC inspection team for recognition of University, trained in assessment for quality and excellence in Higher Education for accreditation in NAAC ; involved in assessment of project proposals funded by external agencies ; Undertaken twelve externally funded research projects ; developed models(Trees Green hedge- Crop- Farming System) for reclamation of degraded hills/Jhum land and conducted on farm demonstration in six villages [model got appreciation by the International Research Agency. The method being considered (By Prof Jha) is relevant throughout the hilly area. Report also published in International Journal of Social Economics, London (Vol. 24:1-3, 160-177)]; Bamboo based agro forestry system (pioneer work). He established techniques for management of edible Bamboo resources, management of bamboo species to ensure sustained supply of mature culms and protection of hills from degradation. He supervised 17 PhD students, Authored/edited 13 reference books, and published 127 papers (Journals: 69, Proceedings: 35 and Book chapters: 23).
