Biography

Stephen was born in Melbourne, Australia and currently lives on the far northwest coast of Scotland. He is a member of International Advisory Board of the Association for Safe Biologic Medicines (ABSM), an Honorary Life Member of the Consumers Health Forum of Australia (where he was a Board Member/Chair between 2008-14) and a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA). Currently he is a spokesperson on Biosimilars for the International Alliance of Patient Associations. In 2006 Stephen commenced work in the community sector as CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Victoria, a post from which he retired on 30 March 2012. During his tenure he was also Chair of the Chronic Illness Alliance, Chair of CHF and a Board member of the Australian Council for Healthcare Standards. He has also been a Stakeholder Committee member of Australia's Independent Hospital Pricing Authority. He has a strong track record with strategic health consumer policy and advocacy work. Formerly, Stephen was Vice President of Swinburne University of Technology, where he worked for nine years from 1995-2004. Before joining Swinburne, he was the Foundation Head of Continuing and Community Education at the now Open University of Hong Kong (1992-95) He has spent over 30 years in public and community sector innovation around the world,. He has travelled widely in Europe, Asia and North America. He has diverse community interests, working with a number of community organisations, groups and councils including as a board member of the Sir Edward Dunlop Medical Research Foundation, Chairman of More Than Opera and a Director of RSA in Australia & New Zealand. A strategic senior executive with significant shared services management, strategic business development and enterprise innovation experience. Stephen is regarded for his strong leadership and empowerment skills coupled with comprehensive, strategic and complex planning abilities. An experienced public speaker, particularly on matters of strategy and policy.
