Biography

Michailidou Evangelia was born in October 1975 in Ghent, Belgium. Obtained her Ph.D. degree in July 2015 from the Department of Oral Medicine and Maxillofacial Pathology in Thessaloniki, Greece. Her thesis title was: Study on the expression of different mRNA markers in the saliva of patients suffering from oral cell carcinoma and correlation of these markers to the early diagnosis of the disease. She was funded by the Greek State Scholarships Foundation and the Koulouridis grant from Procter and Gamble Co. During her MSc in Oral pathology she studied the role of VEGF in oral cancer. Thesis Title: The role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in oral squamous cell carcinoma. She is member in oral health and pathology scientific associations and communities. She has published 10 papers in professional Journals with numerous citations. She has also lectured as an invited speaker at both national and international congresses. She is a reviewer and editorial board in eminent journals.


Research Interest

Her research interests are at the moment biomarkers in the blood and the saliva of oral cancer patients but also patients with oral potentially malignant disorders such as oral leukoplakia, oral epithelial dysplasia and carcinoma in situ. She focuses on biomarkers related to 1. Early detection which is the key for a successful early therapeutic approach 2. Disease progression and malignant transformation and finally 3. Monitoring therapy and residual
