Biography

Dr. Richard Klein was born in Detroit and, except for several years serving as a Lt. in the US Navy Dental Corp, has lived and practiced in Michigan. A 1994 motor vehicle accident changed his life and his career. Concentrating on pain management and sleep apnea, he eventually was accredited as a Diplomat in the American Academy of Pain Management for pain management, a Diplomat in Obstructive Sleep Apnea from both the American Sleep and Breathing Academy and American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine, a Diplomat in Temporomandibular Joint Disorder from International College of Craniomandibular Orthopaedics and American Academy of Craniofacial Pain and is a Fellow in the Royal Society of Health. He is a Clinical Professor at Michigan State Osteopathic Medical School and has provided over 500 lectures worldwide. Dr. Klein patented a model for Obstructive Sleep Apnea and has been published numerous times in peer reviewed Journals and has authored chapters on Temporomandibular Joint Disorder in textbooks. He was a United States Food and Drug Administrator clinical investigator providing information on the first laser (NDYAG) to be used in dentistry and has been asked to speak 5 times in Washington DC to the Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association and US Congress regarding Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Transportation. In 2016 he was elected to the Macomb County Hall of Fame. He has lectured in 14 different countries and numerous states in the United States on Sleep Apnea or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. He is on the Board of Directors of the DMan Foundation, a charitable organization for paraplegics. He recently conducted a 4 hour Obstructive Sleep Apnea presentation for all health care providers at St. John Macomb Hospital and to the Michigan State Osteopathic Medical Annual Clinical Symposium in June 2016 and 2017.
