Biography

Mohamed A. Helal is currently a professor of Drug Design and Development at the University of Science and Technology, Zewail City. After graduating from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Suez Canal University, Egypt, he studied Organic and Medicinal Chemistry for his master. Five years after completing his master's, he received his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Mississippi, USA, for studying Molecular Modeling and Drug Design. Between 2010 and 2017, he has been an assistant professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Suez Canal University. In addition, he developed the curricula of Drug Design and Molecular Modeling courses at Sinai University, Egypt. Starting in 2012, he received six research grants from STDF, ASRT, and the Library of Alexandria to develop drug candidates for the treatment of several diseases. He also received a grant from the National Academy of Sciences, Washington DC, for teaching research ethics to young scientists. Mohamed Helal also holds two certificates in the fields of “Active Learning” and “Research Ethics” from the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the American Chemical Society (ACS). He has been the assistant director of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), Suez Canal University (2015-2016). He is also involved in several volunteering and community service programs with Intel ISEF Egypt, Misr Elkheir Foundation, and the National Academy of Sciences, USA. In 2018, he received a Fulbright Grant as a visiting scholar at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, University of Florida. Helal has also been affiliated with some world scientific societies such as ACS, AAPS, and the Rho Chi academic chapter of Mississippi. He participated as a trainer, guest speaker, or chairperson in several local and international events.
