Biography

My current research is focus on the design of novel nanostructures to target DNA Bio-molecular Motors (DNA topoisomerases and DNA translocases) and particular DNA conformational states in dividing cells. Through the activity of DNA topoisomerases, cells modulate the degree of supercoiling, knotting and catenation of DNA strands. Biochemical and genetic manipulation of these enzymes allow altering the intracellular DNA topology and studying its effect on chromosome activities and DNA organization. Eukaryotic DNA topoisomerases are the targets of a broad spectrum of chemiotherapy drugs. Prokaryotic DNA topoisomerases are the targets of several antibiotics.
