Biography

Ralovich Béla was born in 1937 at Pécs (Hungary). He received his M.D. diploma in Medical University of Pécs. He started to work for the Institue of Microbiology (1961-1975) and latter for that of the Public Health and Epidemiology (1975-1988). He thought students and his main research fields were: enteric bacteria, salmonellosis, salmonella immunity, listeriosis, food microbiology and microbial flora of surface waters. He performed researches in the U.K. as well as Russia and presented scientific lectures in 14 countries. He was a WHO expert for listeriosis and organized two International Listeriosis Symposiums. He received Ph.D. (salmonellosis) in 1973 and D.M.S. (listeriosis) in 1986 from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1988 at Budapest he became an expert in the Research Institute of Meat Indistry (1988-1992) and finally the senior executive of public health in the Ministry of Welfare (1992-1999). In 1999 he retired. He published 4 books, some chapters and more than 165 articles. He was the member of several Hungarian and International Societies and is an active member of the Hungarian Society for Microbiology still. His scientific activity was recognised with different awards (Markusovszky Diploma, Outstanding Scholar Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences three times, Manninger Medal and the Golden Cross of the Hungarian Republic).
