Biography

Salah Rubayi graduated from Baghdad University in 1966. He completed his General Surgery and Plastic Surgery residency in the United Kingdom with licensure from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians in Edinburgh, Scotland, U.K. in 1974. In 1981 he did a fellowship in Burn Surgery at LAC+USC Burn Unit and then Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehab Center. Dr. Rubayi has been on the staff at Rancho during the last 35 years. He is Chief of the Pressure Ulcer Management program and Chairman of Department of Surgery. He is a Professor of Clinical Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery at USC School of Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Fellow of the International Spinal Cord Society and member of Asia and American Paraplegia Society. He published and contributes to many articles in the field of reconstructive surgery of pressure ulcers. He participated in combined NIH research projects with USC, Dept. of Physical Therapy for Electrical Stimulation in wound healing and the Dept. of Occupational Therapy for prevention of pressure ulcers in SCI consumers. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of JSCM, and his book of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery for Pressure Ulcers was published in June 2015. He is widely recognized as one of the nation leading experts in reconstructive surgery of pressure ulcers especially in spinal cord injury patients.
