Amilcar Falcao is Full Professor (Faculty of Pharmacy), Vice-Rector (Research & Innovation) and Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra. He is Senior Researcher at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) and Group Leader (Pharmacometric). His extensive scientific production comprises more than 500 publications (among articles, book chapters and abstracts) and more than 300 posters and oral presentations (dozens of them by invitation), having the overwhelming majority been international and referee submitted. He has a large expertise as supervisor involving more than 40 advanced. He is a regularly invited reviewer and member of the editorial board of several scientific journals. He has been several times distinguished with national and international awards. Keeping a strong connection with the pharmaceutical industry along his career, the collaboration with the laboratories BIAL (Portugal) shall be highlighted, where he actively and significantly participates in his program of new drugs development, with particular emphasis to eslicarbazepine acetate, which was the first Portuguese commercialized drug (Zebinix ®), and more recently, Opicapone (a new drug for Parkinson's disease already approved by EMA).
