Biography

António MF Araújo is the Director of the Medical Oncology Service of the Hospital Center of Porto and Assistant Professor of the Biomedical Sciences Institute Abel Salazar - University of Porto, since March 2014. He was the Coordinator of the Lung Pathology Clinic of the Portuguese Oncology Institute - Center of Oporto, between 2006 and 2012, and Director of the Medical Oncology Service of the Hospital Center of Between the Douro and Vouga - Santa Maria da Feira, between 2008 and 2014 . He has been a member of the National Council for Oncology since August 2013 and has been a member of the Advisory Council of the Health Regulatory Authority since February 2015. He is also a member of the Ethics Committee of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) for the period 2015-2019. He obtained his degree in 1987 from the University of Porto and carried out his specialties in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the Hospital of S. João de Deus, VN Famalicão, Braga, Portugal. He completed his PhD in Medical Sciences at the Biomedical Sciences Institute of Abel Salazar of the University of Porto. In 2011, it completed the XIV Program of High Management of Health Institutions (XIV PADIS), of AESE. His main fields of interest include development of therapeutics, translational and clinical research, and research on the molecular mechanisms of resistance and tumor progression in lung cancer. He is also involved in drug-economics research and costs of cancer treatment. He is the supervisor or co-supervisor of several dissertations for master's and doctoral dissertation at the University of Porto. The Prof. Dr. Araújo authored or contributed to more than 60 scientific articles. He is a member of ESMO, ASCO, IASLC, Portuguese Society of Oncology and Portuguese Society of Pulmonology. He has been a member of the Board of Directors between 2006 and 2012 and has been a member of the Scientific Council since 2012 of the Lung Cancer Study Group. He has been vice president of the Northern Regional Council and a member of the National Executive Council of the Order of Physicians since 2011. Since its foundation in 2010, he has been the President of Pulmonale - the Portuguese Association for the Fight against Lung Cancer.


Research Interest

Dr. Antonio Araujo main fields of interest include development of therapeutics, translational and clinical research, and research on the molecular mechanisms of resistance and tumor progression in lung cancer. He is also involved in drug-economics research and costs of cancer treatment.
