Biography

Dr. Guru Betageri is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Associate Dean of Graduate College of Biomedical Sciences at Western University of Health Sciences. Dr. Betageri obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. He worked as a visiting scientist at National Cancer Institute at NIH, Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Betageri accepted a faculty appointment at Auburn University, Alabama in 1989. In 1998 he moved to Western University of Health, Pomona, California as an Associate Professor. He was promoted to Professor in 1999 and Department Chair in 2002. Dr. Betageri accepted Associate Dean position in the Graduate College of Biomedical Sciences at Western University of Health Sciences in 2008. Dr. Betageri is a member of AAPS, CRS and AACP. Dr. Betageri is a recipient of AAPS Fellow.


Research Interest

Betageri’s research expertise is in the area of “Liposome Drug Delivery” systems. He has obtained grant support from Federal agencies as well as more than 25 Pharmaceutical companies to support his research activities. His contract research work with pharmaceutical companies is mainly in the area of solid dosage forms. He was instrumental in the formulation and development of several products on the market. Dr. Betageri has published more than 80 original research papers in refereed journals and presented more than 130 papers at National and International meetings. He has been invited speaker at various National and International Conferences and Pharmaceutical companies. He is a reviewer for more than 12 pharmaceutical journals and he is also on the editorial board of several scientific journals. He is a co-author of the book entitled “Liposome Drug Delivery” and he has co-authored several book chapters. He has been awarded eight US patents.
