Biography

Deli Gao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is graduated from East China Petroleum Institute in January 1982 with a bachelor degree in drilling engineering. He obtained his master degree in mechanical engineering from the Southwest Petroleum Institute in 1984 and a doctorate degree in Oil and Gas Well Engineering from University of Petroleum in 1990. In 1992, he completed his Postdoctoral research at Tsinghua University and was promoted as associate professor of solid mechanics at Tsinghua University. In 1993, he was elected as director of petroleum engineering. In 1995, he went to the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A & M University as senior visiting scholar. In 2005, he became the deputy director and director of academic committee in China University of Petroleum, Beijing. In 2006, he became the Director of the Key Laboratory of Petroleum Engineering in China University of Petroleum, Beijing. In 2013, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has long been engaged in the teaching and research work in the field of oil and gas engineering, taking "Downhole Mechanics / Information and Control Engineering" as his main research direction. Innovative research results have been achieved in the fields drill string mechanics and engineering, borehole trajectory control, drilling formability and anisotropy evaluation of drilling bit.
