City Highlights

About City

The global city of Dubai is the largest in the United Arab Emirate, with tourism and a western-style business model driving its revenue. Dubai boasts cutting-edge building projects, some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers and first class resorts. The Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest building in the world, affords visitors an almost surrealistic view of the city from the observation decks on the 124th and 148th floors. The Jumeirah Mosque is one of the most beautiful in the city and one of only very few that are open to non-Muslims. Those who are inclined to a more entertainment-oriented holiday can visit IMG Worlds of Adventure, the largest indoor theme park in the world. Thrilling rides, multiple dining options and fun for all, means that you can spend days in this mega playground which is the size of 28 football fields. Tie up your vacation with a stopoff at Madinat Jumeirah, constructed as a replica of a traditional Arab village. Waterways, palm trees and flat-roofed hotels make this a delightful place to visit by day and night. But this city has many cultural highlights and things to do as well as all the glamorous modern add-ons. Take a wander around the Bastakia district, and you'll discover the Dubai of old, then cruise along Dubai Creek in a traditional dhow, and you'll soon realize there's more to this city than its flashy veneer. Cars, buses, Tram cars, Metro rail, high-speed rails, and waterways are the major transportation facilities of the city. Taxi services are easily available at affordable prices. Water buses and water taxis are mostly available on selected routes. A desert safari offers the chance to get a flavour of the Bedouin lifestyle, from a time when the Dubai skyline was more sand than super-city. When it comes to food, the vibrant city Dubai is almost too exotic to imagine. There are several restaurants serving virtually every national cuisine from around the world, including many specializing in Dubai’s own Arabic delights. And a lot of nationalities here. You can interact with and learn about a lot of cultures here.

Dubai has an incredible array of wares to purchase, and the glittering gold market is a must-see. The entrance proclaims “Dubai City of Gold” and you’ll walk past shop after shop of beautiful bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and other baubles. Dubai is known for stellar service – they opened the very first “seven-star” hotel, after all – and I was still surprised at the level of care displayed by the employees at the JW Marriott in Business Bay, the tallest hotel in the world. The hotel opened just a couple of months ago, and starting from the moment you step out of your taxi and walk to the front door, you will feel like royalty. A desert safari offers the chance to get a flavour of the Bedouin lifestyle, from a time when the Dubai skyline was more sand than super-city. Numerous companies offer desert safaris but check them out before booking: ask what time you'll be dropped back at your hotel and whether they plan to stop anywhere on the way, especially what food there will be and any extras you may need to pay for. Dubai is also popular for its vibrant nightlife and it has much to offer of late night entertainment and the emirate regularly hosts some of the world-renowned DJs, most popular club nights and artists from around the globe including David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Katy Perry, Nicky Minaj, Chris Brown and more. Dubai flights arrive at the Dubai International Airport (DXB), which operates both domestic and international flights. This is the second largest airport in the world which has 3 terminals and consists of 75 million passengers capacity yearly. Dubai airport is spread over 7,200 acres of land and consists of four terminal buildings and four concourses.  The UAE is very, very safe – with hardly any street crime, it’s a great place to bring up young children. They have a wonderful outdoor life with every opportunity you can think of from snow-skiing (albeit in a mall) to indoor sky-diving and playing polo.
