Abstract:

The effect of the environment on health has been well researched and documented and much is known about what preventative methods are required to maintain good health. Ensuring sustainability of the environment, reducing pollution and being responsible with waste management requires raising awareness among healthcare providers as well as in the community. The increasing use of healthcare simulation in the training of students as well as healthcare professionals, globally, places simulation instructors in positions of influential leadership. Thus in the realm of sustainability, simulation educators are in a position of advantage, with the ability to play a major role in contributing to better community health. Additionally, management buy in requires following policies and presenting projects in ways that make sense. This is a report of the initiation of such a project which wowed stakeholders enough for them to pay attention.

Abstract:

best ways to ensure medical staff can provide the very best health care.  There is ample statistical evidence to support that simulation clinical scenarios not only improve clinical skills and competence of the learner but to also aid in the development of non-technical abilities including the recognition of the value of human factors in the healthcare. Studies have been conducted in comparing the link between safety management in aviation and healthcare.   There is no doubt that healthcare has been following the path of aviation safety models from risk management to simulation training and there are published similarities in the concept of what both industries deem to be safe. The major influencers are aviation manuals, checklists, promoting a blame-free reporting culture, the drive to improve team briefs before and after an event and the ‘sterile cockpit’ scenario, this is ensuring that there are no distractions prior to an intervention or physical activity.

Biography:

Edmund Kunji holds a PhD in Mathematics and Natural Sciences from the University of Groningen and he has been an EMBO Postdoctoral Fellow with Richard Henderson at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge. Since 2000 he is a Research Group Leader at the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit, University of Cambridge, where he works with his group on structures of transport proteins to elucidate the transport processes in mitochondria.

Abstract:

Mitochondrial ADP/ATP carriers in the inner membrane belong to the mitochondrial carrier family and they transport ADP into the mitochondrial matrix for ATP synthesis, and ATP out to the cytosol to fuel the cell. They cycle between cytoplasmic-open and matrix-open states, in which the substrate-binding site is alternately accessible from either compartment for ADP or ATP binding.

Abstract:

The health status of forced migrants and refugees varies significantly. Differences are attributed to the political nature of the legal categories of “refugee”; the wide disparities in health services; and the diversity in individual characteristics of this population including age, gender, and socioeconomic background, country of origin, ethnicity, language proficiency, migration trajectory, and legal status. Refugees are considered to be at risk of being or becoming relatively “unhealthy migrants”. This project report investigates the challenges and hurdles faced by healthcare professionals trying to provide primary and preventative healthcare to forced migrants and refugee
communities. It also looks at factors such as Demographics, Shelter, Water Sanitation & Hygiene, Food & Nutrition, Weather, and Environment etc. that can have an impact on the health status of these communities.

Meetings International - Conference Keynote Speaker Ghada Mohamed El Mandoury photo

Ghada Mohamed El Mandoury

Goconsult, UAE

Title: The link between system thinking and improvement in healthcare

Biography:

Ghada Elmandoury is a Biomedical Engineer; Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB), has Quality and Patient Safety certificate from (IHI). He has diverse experience in Healthcare System Improvement, Clinical System Reliability, Patient Safety, Clinical Care Improvement, Coaching & Culture Change Management, Building Capacities & Capabilities, Business Process Management, and Program Management across major GCC healthcare organizations.

Abstract:

Strong health systems are fundamental if we are to improve health outcomes. System thinking is a powerful tool which first untangles the complexity of a health system then applies that understanding to design better interventions and solutions to strengthen systems. Designing solutions to system problems suggests ways to be more realistically present to how health systems might respond to strengthening interventions while also exploring the potential dangers amongst these interventions. It shows how better evaluations of the health system strengthens initiatives which can yield valuable lessons about what works, how it works and who it works for. If we accept that no intervention is required and that every act of intervening has effects such as the intended and unintended, then it is essential that we begin to understand the full extent of those effects to get rid of any negative behavior and focus
on any potential dangers.

He is having research experience in medical and clinical biochemistry with hands on experience on proteomic techniques.

Abstract:

Diagnosing the degree of multifactorial liver cirrhosis is crucial for successful management; early diagnosis may reverse cirrhotic liver to normal. Highly invasive liver biopsy is gold standard diagnostic tool. Existing biomarkers for cirrhosis in clinical practice have narrow applicability due to lack of specificity and sensitivity. Proteins expressed from liver entering into circulation reflect degree of liver dysfunction. Technological advancement in proteomic approach may generate numerous biomarker candidates. Prioritization of candidate is prerequisite for further validation in biomarker pipeline. Hence, present study aims to correlate newly
discovered biomarker candidate with serum levels of direct
and indirect biomarkers of hepatocellular damage.
