About City

Amsterdam is the capital and most populous municipality of the Netherlands. Amsterdam's name derives from Amstelredamme, indicative of the city's origin around a dam in the river Amstel. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the city expanded, and many new neighbour hoods and suburbs were planned and built. Amsterdam is located in the Western Netherland.  The river Amstel ends in the city centre and connects to a large number of canals that eventually terminate. University of Amsterdam is one of the large publicly funded research University in the city.  Established in 1632 by municipal authorities and later renamed for the city of Amsterdam, the University of Amsterdam is the third-oldest university in the Netherlands.  It is one of the largest research universities in Europe
