Marcio Alvarez-Silva is working as a Professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina and directing the Stem Cell and Bioengineering Laboratory.

Research Interest

The Laboratory investigates the role of mesenchymal stem cells in the repair of lesions and in bone regeneration. It uses three-dimensional systems for the cultivation and maintenance of mesenchymal stem cells. The Laboratory also investigates how mesenchymal stem cells can act as the support for ex vivo amplification of hematopoietic stem cells. We are developing new possibilities for the use of mesenchymal stem cells as therapeutic tools, enhancing the recovery of patients in the treatment of leukemia and lymphomas, where transplantation of hematopoietic cells is indicated.
