Session 01: Xenotransplantation
Xenotransplantation has the potential to alleviate the critical shortage of organs for transplantation in humans. However, multiple barriers exist to the broad clinical application of xenotransplantation, including immunologically mediated graft rejection of xenogeneic tissues, metabolic or molecular incompatibilities between donor organs and humans, ethical concerns, and the risk of infections that may be transmitted from donor species to humans.

Session 02: OrganTransplantation
A cornea transplant replaces diseased or scarred corneal tissue with healthy tissue from an organ donor. There are two main types of cornea transplants: traditional, full thickness cornea transplant (also known as penetrating keratoplasty, or PK) and back layer cornea transplant (also known as endothelial keratoplasty, or EK).
A heart transplant is a surgery in which a diseased heart is replaced with a healthy heart from a donor. Heart transplantation is a relatively simple operation for a cardiac surgeon.
A lung transplant is a surgical procedure to replace a diseased or failing lung with a healthy lung, usually from a deceased donor. Depending on your medical condition, a lung transplant may involve replacing one of your lungs or both of them. In some situations, the lungs may be transplanted along with a donor heart.
Chronic kidney disease is a major health concern in this country afflicting more than eight million Americans. When kidney function declines to a certain level, patients have end-stage renal disease and require either dialysis or transplantation to sustain their life. Kidneys for transplantation come from two different sources: a living donor or a deceased donor.
Liver transplant means removing a whole or part of liver from a deceased or living donor, placing and attaching in a patient after removing whole of the diseased liver. Liver transplant may be necessary for patients who suffer from: liver damage due to alcoholism, Malignancies involving liver: Hepatocellular carcinoma, Hepatoblastoma, HilarCholangiocarcinoma, etc.,
A successful pancreas transplant will eliminate the need for insulin injections, reduce or eliminate dietary and activity restrictions due to diabetes, and decrease or eliminate the risk of severe low blood sugar reactions.
A bone marrow transplant is a treatment that replaces unhealthy marrow with a healthy one. It’s also called a blood or marrow transplant (BMT).

Session 03: Retransplantation
Retransplantation is one situation in which alternative techniques to the bicaval anastomosis are especially useful. Retransplantation remains the definitive treatment for this complicated and grave condition. Retransplantation has been utilized as a salvage technique for refractory graft failure. Outcomes following early, emergent retransplantation for primary graft dysfunction are poor, and consequently, use of this intervention in this setting is discouraged.

Session 04: Transplantation immunology
A major problem following transplantation is that the immune system of the recipient sees the grafted tissue as 'foreign' and attacks and destroys it. Historically, the focus of transplant immunology has mainly relied on targeting the mechanisms of specific (adaptive) immunity. However, there are emerging data that both rejection and tolerance are influenced by both nonspecific (innate) and adaptive immune responses.

Session 05: Experimental transplantation
Transplant experiments are often used to test if there is a genetic component to differences in populations. Advances in molecular biology have provided researchers with the ability to study genetic variation more directly. However, transplant experiments still have the advantages of being simple and requiring little technology. Common garden methods can be improved by combining evidence with genomic studies, the use of dense marker panel data, and modern statistical methods.

Session 06: Tissue injury and repair
TR is a complex and comprehensive process that encompasses various aspects of tissue rebuilding and is governed by an intricate molecular signalling. Not all the tissues in the body are capable of stimulating TR. The so-called ‘post mitotic’ tissues such as muscles and nervous tissue cannot undergo TR while other tissues such as skin, liver, kidney, and lungs are capable of undergoing a TR upon surgical resection, mechanical, or chemical injury.

Session 07: Organ procurement
The procurement process is a complex series of events that involves medical professionals at all levels in varied settings. Federal and state legislation has been enacted to help ensure that the process is carried out in a fair and efficient way, leading to an equitable distribution of donated organs. UNOS has developed a point system for selecting recipients as objectively as possible. Once the recipients have been identified, they are called in for their preoperative workups. Organ preservation is the ability to maintain ex vivo organ viability in addition to the capacity to restore normal organ function at the time of restitution of physiological blood flow.

Session 08: Barriers
Blood groups represent important transplantation barriers when blood is transfused because incompatible ABO blood group antigens of the donor are recognized by the recipient's natural antibodies, Major histocompatibility antigens, Minor histocompatibility antigens.
Organ Transplant Meetings | Kidney Transplantation Conferences | International Transplantation Meetings | Transplant Webinars.
Session 09: Living donors
Depending on the specific paired exchange program used, there may be protections in place to give recipients in these situations priority for future matches. Kidney exchanges are complex and, in spite of everyone’s good intentions, can be difficult to execute. The key in the continued success of kidney exchanges depends on many factors, including improved streamlining of the process. Better record sharing capabilities, improved shipping plans, standardized national financial fees, a thorough informed consent of the donor, would have an impact in improving the exchange process.

Session 10:Histocompatibility
Histocompatibility has a measurable effect on whole organ transplantation, increasing life expectancy of both the patient and organ. HLA similarity is therefore a relevant factor when choosing donors for tissue or organ transplant. This is especially important for pancreas and kidney transplants.
International Transplantation Conferences | Organ Donation Webinars | Liver Transplant Conferences | Heart Transplantation Conferences.
Session 11:Tolerance
The most commonly transplanted solid organ is the kidney, but the field of solid organ transplantation also includes the heart, liver, pancreas, lung or intestine. Nowadays, transplantation still remains the best solution for organ failure, even in the face of graft rejection. Tolerance can be of three kinds, The immune tolerance, Central tolerance, Peripheral tolerance.
Kidney Transplantation Conferences | International Transplantation Meetings | Transplant Webinars | Organ Transplant  Collaborations.
Session 12: Immunosuppression
Immunosuppression for organ transplants usually involves triple or quadruple drug treatment. The intensity of immunosuppression is initially high but tends to be reduced to a maintenance level that is determined by individual factors and the type of organ transplant. Immune suppressants in organ transplant are used for preventing organ rejection and reverse acute rejection in organ transplantation, prevent and treat graft-versus-host disease, minimise destruction of affected tissues in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

Impact of COVID 19 on Transplantation Market
COVID19 impact: Market declined by 50% in 2020

Pandemic Impact

Post COVID Outlook

Total transplantation procedures were down to around 50% globally during the first and second quarters of 2020.

Surgeons are now able to transplant organs even in COVID-19 recovered patients. However, post-transplantation patients are at higher risk of COVID-19 and the number of procedures is expected to be limited during 2021.

Many of the transplant centers have started solid organ transplants despite the second wave of the pandemic. For COVID-19 patients, the procedures are performed after 4 weeks of infection.

Organ failures related to permanent damage due to COVID, and an increasing geriatric population are the factors expected to fuel the market during the forecast period. The growth rate is expected to be increased by 2-3% as compared to the CAGR forecasted with non-COVID scenario

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, in 2019, there were around 43,201 patients waiting for kidney transplants in the U.S. However, only 23,401 kidney transplant procedures were performed. Moreover, after a transplantation surgery, the recipients are prescribed powerful immunosuppressive drugs; thus, increasing their susceptibility to infectious diseases with their immunity being weakened.
This can hamper the demand for transplantation procedures in many countries amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the shortage of resources, such as primary protective equipment, ICU, and blood products, during the pandemic has contributed to the sharp fall in the market revenue in 2020.
Application Type Insights:
Tissue transplantation led the global transplantation market with a share of over 61% in 2020 and the segment will expand further at the fastest CAGR from 2021 to 2028. This is due to the fact that replacement of skin, cornea, bones, heart valves, tendons, nerves, and veins are the most commonly performed procedures worldwide. The escalating number of burn and accident cases is expected to propel the demand for tissue products. According to the European Road Safety Observatory report, there were 102,362 accidental injury cases reported in Spain, thus, creating a demand for tissue transplantation.
The organ transplantation segment is expected to register a significant growth rate of 10.8% during the forecast period. An increasing number of organ transplantations globally as well as the repetitive purchase of immunosuppressants is anticipated to boost the market growth in the near future. For instance, in 2017, globally, around 90,306 kidney transplant procedures were performed.

Regional Insights:
North America led the global market in 2020 with a share of over 39% and is expected to maintain its dominance throughout the study period. The presence of well-developed healthcare facilities and several large-scale biotechnology and medical devices companies, such as Arthrex, Inc.; Zimmer Biomet; Medtronic; Novartis AG; and Stryker, in the region are supporting the market growth.
The gap between demand and supply of organs, including kidney, liver, and heart, for transplantation, has increased in the last decade. However, governments and NGOs of various countries are taking initiatives to encourage people to donate organs and save lives. New guidelines and rules for organ donation make the donation process more transparent and easier. The Human Resource & Services Administration launched Hospital Organ Donor Campaign in April 2020. This led to an increase in the number of organ donations from the previous year.
Asia Pacific is projected to be the fastest-growing regional market during the forecast period owing to the extensive research on stem cells to develop in vitro tissue and organs and improving healthcare infrastructure in countries, such as India, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
Key Companies & Market Share Insights:
The market is highly fragmented with the presence of many large-, small-, and medium-scale vendors. Major players are involved in new product launches, mergers & acquisitions, and regional expansion to gain maximum revenue share in the industry. Mergers and acquisitions support vendors in expanding their existing product portfolio and geographical reach. For instance, in May 2020, AbbVie acquired Allergan to strengthen its product portfolio and distribution channels.
Rising regulatory approvals for allografts, autologous grafts, and other materials along with the development of innovative products, such as 3D bioprinting for tissue and organ regeneration, have led to high demand for transplant products. For instance, in September 2020, Israel-based CollPlant Biotechnologies and United Therapeutics announced a collaboration to include 3D bioprinting in the development of human kidneys for transplant.
