In the elimination phase, the immune response leads to destruction of tumor cells and therefore to tumor suppression. However, some tumor cells may gain more mutations, change their characteristics and evade the immune system. These cells might enter the equilibrium phase, in which the immune system doesn’t recognise all tumor cells, but at the same time the tumor doesn’t grow.

As per the UICC report, around 8 million people are dying worldwide because of cancer. One in three of us will develop cancer at some time in our lives, and one in four will die of it. As we see locally, cancer is now the most common cause of premature death in Scotland. Each year, around 29,000 people will have a new cancer diagnosed and at any one time around 150,000 people may be affected. This number will be increasing towards the end of the century due to the increase in the elderly population.

Skin Cancer

Session 5. Medical Oncology
Medical oncology is a method of treating cancer by using principles of Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, Hormonal therapy and targeted therapy in a sufficient way to treat cancer. In order to get effective positive outcomes, medical oncology is used in conjunction with surgical oncology and radiation oncology. Oncology will give you the ideas about developing these techniques which could melt down the certain hurdles in diagnostics and treatment.

For the past 25 years Oncology has kept pace with the progression of the oncology field and has offered an interpretation of literature which appeals to both the academician and the practicing "in-the-trenches" community oncologist. Editorial features such as Practice & Policy, explore the changing times in the healthcare landscape in such areas as FDA regulations, Medicare & Medicaid policy, and the impact of health care reform.

Another feature is Integrative Oncology which covers alternative herbal treatments, uses, research, adverse reactions and interactions. Oncology  serves as a strong resource and forum for the cancer care clinician and generates a strong sense of community among its readers.
