About City

Berlin is the capital and also the largest town of FRG. Berlin is located in northeastern Germany on the banks of the rivers Spree and Havel. Berlin’s economy is principally supported the service sector. Berlin location is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate due to its location in the European plain. Berlin is the seventh most populous urban area in the European Union and second most populous city in the European Union. Berlin’s growing appeal as an international study destination is also due in part to a greater provision of courses in English. Berlin is a major center for culture, politics, media, and science. Between the river Spree and the Kupfergraben in a 400-meter-long canal, Spree Island is better known as Museum Island (Museumsinsel), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you'll find many of the city's oldest and most important museums, including the Old Museum (Altes Museum).
The city is served by two airports. The Tegel International Airfield is the main airfield for international carriers and a hub for domestic flights (Lufthansa and Air Berlin). The airfield is connected to various cities around the world like London (Heathrow Airport), Doha, Istanbul, Beijing, Vienna, etc. Major airlines serving this airport include British Airways, Qatar Airways, Swiss International Air Lines, United Airlines, etc. The Schonefeld airport is the base for charter flights, many low-cost airlines (Ryanair, easyJet and Germanwings) and most of the traffic from Eastern Europe.
